The movement and motions of the heavens were very important to the Iremic culture. All heavenly bodies are considered to be "lamps" within which reside often amorphous (though sometimes anthropomorphic, and rarely entirely humanoid-though if so often female) deities and powers. When they are distant they are only a whisper in the void, but in certain alignments or when the "planes" of the heavens are "coterminous" with that of the Earth their blessings and curses can fall upon men. Sometimes gods are shown physically bound or chained to heavenly bodies. Even when strange moons and planets are not directly depicted, they are present in the form of often crescents composed of smaller lines of calligraphy.
