The Eyes In The Sky

Eyes, usually single when disembodied, though often appearing in any number (many pairs, or even odd numbers) are an important motif. These are the eyes of the gods, ever watching but also represent "sight beyond sight" -the opened window into a hazy realm through which dead lights can be seen, filling the mind and the soul. They are not always symbols, but also frequently depicted as creatures with a physicality equal to that of visiting gods. They are messengers, hand servants, and pets of the powers that be -or sometimes one of their own eyes set free of a socket to communicate with men as both dream and apparition.
